While many collectors travel to Japan searching for Grand Seiko, vintage King Seikos, or elusive Credors, Minase represents something different. Produced in extremely small numbers by Kyowa Seiko in Akita Prefecture, the brand is built around extraordinary case finishing, modular construction, and an obsession with Japanese craftsmanship. From the moment I walked in, the experience felt relaxed rather than transactional. There was no pressure to buy. Instead, the staff encouraged me to spend time with each watch, discussing the unique construction of the cases, the finishing techniques, and the philosophy behind the brand.

The Watch That Stopped Me

I had originally planned to look at several Minase models.

Then I saw the watch.

A Seven Windows Limited Edition with a stunning purple mother-of-pearl dial.

Only 77 examples of this reference were ever produced.

Photographs simply don’t prepare you for how this dial behaves in person. Depending on the light it shifts between deep violet, lavender, silver and flashes of pink, while the nacre beneath creates remarkable depth. Every movement of the wrist reveals another personality.

Surrounding that dial is the Seven Windows case—a design that has become Minase’s signature. The multiple sapphire viewing angles give the watch its name, allowing light to penetrate the case from different directions while showcasing the intricate architecture inside. The ice-blue model offered a cool, contemporary aesthetic, while the purple limited edition felt almost like a handcrafted piece of jewelry.

Seeing both allowed me to appreciate just how dramatically Minase’s finishing and dial work can transform the same platform.

Service That Made the Difference

What stood out just as much as the watches was the service.

The team patiently answered every question, happily brought out additional models for comparison, and even accommodated my request to swap bracelets and straps so my watch would be configured exactly as I wanted before leaving the store.

Those small details matter.

Buying an independent watch should feel personal, and the staff at NEXT BRIDGE clearly understand that. The experience never felt rushed. Instead, it felt like spending an afternoon with fellow enthusiasts who genuinely enjoy introducing collectors to one of Japan’s hidden treasures.

Final Thoughts

Japan is famous for its vintage Seikos, Grand Seikos, and incredible pre-owned watch market. But my visit to NEXT BRIDGE reminded me that some of the country’s most exciting watchmaking is happening today.

Minase may still be under the radar internationally, but after spending time with the Seven Windows collection, it’s easy to understand why passionate collectors speak about the brand with such enthusiasm.

Sometimes the watches you remember most aren’t the ones you travelled to see.

They’re the ones you never expected to discover.

And for me, that unexpected discovery was a purple Seven Windows—one of just 77 ever made.
